You can price a base Mini Cooper to over $40,000. Why would you ever do that? The JCW starts at $30,900.

MINIs and their pricing have always baffled me. I drove around in an 1st gen S and thought “this is a premium car?”

Drive a new one. The first gen was garbage.

It’s actually not to bad at $20000 with some good options to start. The thing is that you can add $18k+ in options.

Also: it’s a premium car in the same way a Fiesta ST is. Its a little hatchback with good handling and decent performance.

I was thinking more “premium compact” in the sense of a premium car that happens to be small, which is the way MINI markets them. i.e. a premium car that is small, not a small nice car.
